Friends of Don Sather is a not-for-profit (501(c)3) organization that was created to honor and commemorate our friend who left us far too early. Don was born on July 12th, 1956 in Aitkin, MN and lived his whole life in McGregor, MN. He was an avid sportsman, athlete and community activist who gave his all for his friends, church and community. Don was stricken with ALS, also known as Lou Gherig's Disease, and passed away on March 18, 2009 at the age of 52 years young.
He was an avid pheasant and duck hunter, auto and snowmobile race enthusiast, softball teammate, trap shooter, bowler, runner, skier and basketball player. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Minnewawa Sportsmans Club, Tamarack Sportsmans Club, McGregor Lions Club and McGregor chapter of the MDHA. Don was not just a member of these organizations, but a contributor, always dedicating his time to serve and organize their sponsored events.
Don's friends were, and still are, so touched by his friendship, loyalty and generosity that we are committed to creating an eternal memorial to him, in the form of a perpetual memorial scholarship for continued education for the benefit of the students of McGregor High School. We are also dedicated to Don's wish of finding a cure for ALS and improving the lives of those affected by this horrible disease. All proceeds of our fund raisers go to these worthy causes.
Please join us in our quest to honor Don and help to fulfill his dying wish. As Don would say, "be part of the solution for A.L.S.".
